A New Era in GSÜÖSYS: The Top 25,000 Requirement Changed to Top 50,000

The ranking requirement in the central university entrance exam needed to apply for the GSÜÖSYS—the student selection and placement exam for Galatasaray University admissions—has been revised. Accordingly, the condition of ranking in the top 25,000 has been changed to the top 50,000, and this modification will take effect starting with the 2027-GSÜÖSYS. This change creates a significant new window of opportunity, especially for students attending French-medium high schools who aim to study at Galatasaray University.

Who Does the Regulation Concern? It covers students from public and private high schools that provide education in French, as determined by Galatasaray High School and Galatasaray University. It should not be forgotten that merely ranking in the top 50,000 does not mean a student will be directly accepted into Galatasaray University. With this ranking, the student qualifies to have their internal exam paper evaluated. To be admitted to the university, one must also demonstrate strong performance in the internal exam.

What Does the New Regulation Mean for Students? The biggest disadvantage for French high school students is taking math and science courses in French throughout their high school education. A student who learns all concepts in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics in French tries to learn the Turkish equivalents of all these quantitative subjects when starting their YKS (Higher Education Institutions Examination) preparation. This could cause students, particularly those in quantitative tracks, to fall behind in YKS success rankings.

For students accustomed to multiple-choice questions during the LGS process, deciphering the language of the questions and gaining speed might not be an issue. However, getting used to the Turkish equivalents of the subjects, coupled with the struggle of students who have spent years in the French educational system proving solutions and writing down all steps, made the top 25,000 requirement very challenging.

With the success ranking requirement raised to the top 50,000, the GSÜ Internal Exam papers of more students will now be eligible for evaluation. Especially for quantitative students aiming for engineering departments, this change significantly increases the likelihood of reaching Galatasaray University.
